About the Event

Join the Tibetan Buddhist monks of the Ngari Institute on their Great Compassion Tour. Witness them creating a traditional sand mandala over several days, with public viewing of the intricate artwork as it takes form. The week culminates in a Dissolution Ceremony and water blessing at the river, symbolizing impermanence and compassion offered to the wider community.


Day 1–3 (Wed-Fri): Sand Mandala Creation at Rooted Lounge

  • 10:00–11:00 AM — Chanting & Prayer

  • 11:00 AM–1:00 PM — Mandala Construction

  • 1:00–2:00 PM — Lunch (studio closed)

  • 2:00–5:00 PM — Mandala Construction


Day 4 (Sat): Dissolution Ceremony & Community Blessing

  • 10:00–11:00 AM — Chanting & Prayer (Rooted Lounge)

  • 12:00–1:00 PM — Dissolution of the Mandala (Rooted Lounge)

  • 1:00 PM — Caravan to Lorenzi Park for Water Ceremony

  • 2:00 PM — Blessing Ceremony in Water

  • 3:00 PM — Community Picnic


Admission & Offerings

This is a community-supported cultural event. RSVP is free; donations are warmly welcome to support the Ngari Institute’s education and the monks’ U.S. tour hospitality. (We’ll have QR codes for DonorBox and Zelle on-site). You can also donate dircetly through this link.


How to Participate

  • Come during open hours to quietly witness the mandala creation.

  • You’re invited to return over multiple days to see the evolving artwork.

  • For the Dissolution Day: consider bringing a small picnic item to share at the park (optional).


Etiquette & FAQs

Seating: Limited floor seating; cushions encouraged. We will have some available

Photography: Please be respectful; no flash during chanting/prayers.

Sound: Keep phones on silent; whisper if needed.

Children: Welcome with mindful supervision.

Accessibility: Ground-level entry; please reach out if you need specific accommodations.

Parking: Street and nearby lot options on S Main St.
